The S. Livingston Mather Scholarship Competition
for Male Singers

RULES AND PROCEDURES

1.
|
Eligibility: Male vocalists engaged in full-time or substantial part-time study of music, progressing toward the goal of an undergraduate or graduate degree, are eligible to participate in the competition. Previous competitors and award recipients may compete if they meet these requirements.

|
Application deadline: Submit an application and an audition audio file no later than 6:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2011 (mp3 format preferred). Complete online applications at www.singersclub.org/scholarship. If file cannot be emailed, send by US Mail to John Shields, 4457 Brooks Rd., Cleveland, OH 44105-6053. An application is incomplete unless the applicant's audio file is received by the deadline.

Audio requirements: Audios shall contain a single selection no longer than three minutes, chosen to best feature the applicant’s voice. Record audios in a single take, with no splicing or enhancements. Audios not adhering to these requirements are unacceptable. |

Selection of finalists: The Competition committee will choose sixteen finalists. The Singers’ Club will notify all applicants of the results of the selection process in a timely fashion. |

|
Requirements for the competition: Finalists shall perform three works, limited to ten minutes total performance time. The works shall include: 1) an opera or oratorio aria, 2) an art song, and 3) a selection of the finalist’s choice. One work shall be sung in English. The titles and composers of these works and the name of the finalist’s accompanist shall be submitted with the application. Finalists may include their audition selection in their competition program if it meets the above requirements.

Accompanists: Finalists are responsible for supplying their own accompanist. Cleveland Institute of Music offers a service to connect with CIM student accompanists. |

Publicity photographs: Finalists shall provide a glossy photograph or a digital image (300 dpi minimum resolution) of a “head shot” for publicity purposes. Email digital files to scholarship@singersclub.org; glossy photographs may be brought to the competition. |

|
Date, time, and place: The final competition begins at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, November 13, 2011 in the ballroom of Judson Manor, 1890 East 107th Street, Cleveland, OH. Warm-up space will be available in the lounge.

|
Scheduling: The Scholarship Committee will assign each finalist his performance time. The lounge at Judson Manor will be available to finalists for warm-up fifteen minutes before each performance time. |
|
10.
|
Judging: A panel of judges will assess the finalists’ performances and identify scholarship recipients; their decisions are final. The Scholarship Committee will notify all finalists of the results during the week following the competition.

|
Scholarship awards: The competition winner will be the S. Livingston Mather Scholar and will receive an award of $1,500. The competitor placing second will be the George L. Hackett Scholar and will receive an award of $1,400. Additional Albert Rees Davis Scholars may be named, each of whom will receive awards of $1,250.

|
Performance opportunities: Scholars are encouraged to participate in the 2011–2012 rehearsal and concert schedule of the Singers’ Club of Cleveland. Individual Scholars may be invited to perform as soloists in Singers’ Club concerts and may be invited to perform in recital for benefactors
