The Singers' Club of Cleveland Announces Christopher Clark as New Artistic Director

CLEVELAND, OH – The Singers' Club of Cleveland is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Christopher Clark as its new Artistic Director. Dr. Clark, a highly accomplished musician, conductor, and educator, brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to one of Cleveland's oldest and most esteemed choral organizations.

In 2021, Dr. Clark became the Director of Choirs at Case Western Reserve University. Before his return to Cleveland, he served as the Director of Vocal Music for the Southern Berkshire Regional School District in Sheffield, Massachusetts, where he oversaw nine distinct choral ensembles for students in grades 3-12. Under his leadership, the district was designated a "Best Community for Music Education" by the NAMM foundation for six consecutive years.

A versatile and dynamic musician, Dr. Clark's career is marked by diverse musical endeavors. He is an active vocalist, performing with Voices 21C, a Boston-based social-justice ensemble known for its work in group improvisation and for highlighting the music of marginalized voices. Voices 21C has headlined at prestigious events, including the 2020 ACDA Eastern Region Conference and the 2019 Choralies festival in France.

Dr. Clark's academic and research interests are equally impressive. He has published research on the use of improvisation in the choral classroom and the influence of a teacher's religiosity on student instruction. He is a frequent presenter and honor choir conductor at national and international music education conferences. His contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous accolades, including being named a 2013 Yale “Distinguished Music Educator,” a 2019 Berkshire County “40 under 40,” and a quarterfinalist for the 2022 Grammy Music Education Award.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Clark to The Singers' Club," said Bill Remle, Board President. "His passion for choral music, combined with his extensive experience and commitment to musical innovation, makes him the ideal choice to lead our organization forward."

Dr. Clark holds a Bachelor of Music cum laude from Cleveland State University, two Masters of Music degrees in Choral Conducting and Music Education from Bowling Green State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Music Education from The Hartt School of Music.
